We are concerned with the health, safety and environmental consequences of the different material choices we make.
We have a four-pronged approach to ensure that the materials going into Electrolux products are environmentally sound:
- We optimize material use in the manufacturing of our products to ensure resource efficiency and simplify recyclability
- Our Restricted Materials List (RML) defines which chemicals are banned and restricted from use in our production facilities and supply chain
- Our chemical management system outlines how to handle chemicals used in the production of our products. It is a part of ISO 14001
- We remain one step ahead of legislation such as EU’s RoHS and similar laws arising in China, Japan and the US in regards to chemicals used in manufacturing electrical components (such as lead mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and brominated flame retardants.)
Direct material input consists mainly of steel, plastics and components. Our material utilization in production is continually improving, while hazardous waste and waste to land-fill are largely unchanged. Look at our yearly compilation of material use in Electrolux Material Balance, accessed to the right of this screen under related files.
All hazardous waste (mainly oils, solvents and other chemicals) is handled according to local regulations.
Electrolux manufacturing is the final phase in a chain of suppliers. To protect the interests of our consumers and employees, we must have the full picture regarding the substances that go into the manufacture of our products. This is achieved through our RML. Chemicals are primarily used in manufacturing processes: only small quantities of chemicals are used in manufacturing household appliances in proportion to the total amount of material in the products.
